Stella Vänskä has always held a deep interest in history, culture and heritage. With an artist’s eye, she is inspired by the shapes, patterns and colours that she sees in the most unlikely of sources. Scaffolding and power pylons become folded three-dimensional, geometric, criss-crossing shapes. Decorative cast iron lacework panels on Victorian era verandahs are reinterpreted into eye-catching creations. Other original designs are based on patterns and motifs found in Indian architecture, stemming from a recent artist residency.
Using influences such as these, Stella creates beautiful, unique pieces in her Adelaide Hills studio. She enjoys working with steel, which is lightweight, durable and can be readily shaped into three dimensional forms. Her colourful, contemporary designs are stylish, comfortable to wear, and also make for memorable gifts.
